Effects of Drugs and Alcohol on the Body

There are many medical experts that will say that long-term use of drugs and alcohol is damaging to the body. While they will say this, there are very few who will actually say why unless you go to read papers that they have published. It is important to understand the effects of drugs and alcohol on the human body and just why you should avoid them as much as possible.

The Effects of Alcohol

Alcohol is not as dangerous as using drugs, which is just one of the reasons as to why it has been legalized in most countries in the world. However, there are some dangers to it. This is a substance that goes straight into your bloodstream and it can lead to a number of problems and illnesses.

There are some minor problems linked to the effects of alcohol. The first is the hangover that is noticed the next day. This is partially due to the dehydration that the liquid will cause to the body, which means that headaches are extremely common. Nausea is also very common because of the effect that it has on the organs and dizziness is extremely common due to the effects on the brain.

Weight gain is another common effect of drinking too much. Many people will believe that alcohol is just like drinking water but this is not true. There are a number of sugars in alcoholic drinks, including spirits like vodka and gin. These calories are all empty too, since they provide no nutrients to your body.

Liver problems are also liked to drinking too much, as well as some cancers. The alcohol causes the liver to expand and will add fatty tissue to it. The liver is able to break down alcohol, which is one of the reasons why it is safe in moderation. However, the fatty tissue will stop that happening and the drink will take over. There are many problems, including cirrhosis of the liver. When this happens, the only way to recover is through a transplant. Liver cancer is also possible, along with cancers of other areas including the mouth, larynx and stomach.

Alcohol goes directly into your blood and it is a poison. In small amounts, your body can handle this but in large quantities, there are times that it will lead to alcohol poisoning. This can cause death if not treated. Heart problems are also linked to alcoholism.

The Effects of Drugs

There are many different types of drugs and some are legal and available on prescription. However, legal or not, there are some effects of drugs on the body. Cocaine is one of the worst drugs and cocaine effects on the brain are dramatic.

There are stimulants and depressants when it comes to drugs, which cause different feelings and effects. Stimulants, such as LSD and marijuana, lead to the heart rate going up and can lead to paranoia and psychosis. Marijuana is sometimes used for medical reasons but this is always monitored by a doctor, due to the psychotic effects.

Cocaine effects on the brain are dangerous. It affects the nerves and chemicals and can lead to some serious long term problems. Seizures and tremors are the most common but heart failure is also very common.
